Balfour Beatty along with Palmers Ltd utilised 500,000 TCBs in the strengthening of the world famous Forth Rail bridge. The distinctive iconic bridge spans 1.5 miles across the Firth of Forth near Edinburgh.

Like the Taj Mahal & the Great Wall of China, The Forth Bridge has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has enjoyed this prestigious cultural accolade since July 2015.

Deemed the world’s first major steel edifice The Forth Rail Bridge is a potent symbol of Britain’s industrial, scientific, architectural and transport heritage and, in particular, Scotland’s engineering pedigree and ingenuity. However, it remains a working estuary crossing, busier than ever. The distinctive red bridge carries around 200 local and intercity trains across the Forth every day and forms a key part of the national East Coast Main Line.

Though historically notorious for requiring constant painting and repainting the Greenkote® TCBs supplied were painted onto directly. Unlike galvanised assemblies there was no requirement for etching or other surface treatments prior to painting. Greenkote® TCBs readily accept paints from all leading paint manufacturers including the newer Network Rail approved paints with longevity of 20 years.

Greenkote® anti-corrosion protection

Tension Control Bolts Ltd has its own metal coating plant producing an environmentally friendly anti-corrosion coating called Greenkote, which is comparable to galvanising, although it is harder wearing and readily accepts all paint systems. Learn more about Greenkote.
