Although not invented in the era of steam engines, TCBs are a practical and aesthetically pleasing modern replacement during sensitive restoration work, while preserving the integrity of the original design.

Tension Control Bolts offer a consistent and repeatable method for achieving proper bolt preload—something that’s particularly useful when restoring older machinery where original rivets may be worn, stretched, or corroded. In a traction engine, components such as structural frames, boiler mounts, wheel assemblies, or gear housings can benefit from the predictable tightening that tension control bolts provide, helping reduce the risk of uneven stress or loosening under vibration while replicating the look of traditional hot riveting.
